Introduction

Unboxing a new TV is always an exciting experience, and that’s exactly how I feel about the 2023 77 inch LG G3 OLED. In fact, this isn’t just a review unit – it’s my new TV, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The G3 is set to replace my 2021 C1, so I’m expecting a significant improvement in terms of brightness with the new MLA Tech. In this blog, I’ll be covering everything you need to know about the G3, including its features, installation process, and my first impressions. It’s worth mentioning that the G3 is available in other sizes as well, including 55, 65, and 83 inches. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask. Let’s dive in!

Unboxing and Design

Let’s dive into the unboxing experience and take a closer look at the design of the 2023 77 inch LG G3 OLED.

Measurements and Size of the Box

The box for the 77 inch LG G3 OLED is massive, so it might not fit in a regular car. Make sure you have enough space to transport it.

Contents of the Box

Inside the box, you’ll find the wall bracket, as the TV is designed to be wall mounted. There is no tabletop stand included. Additionally, there is a bag of accessories that contains the magic remote control, batteries, an IR blaster, and manuals.

Description of the TV’s Design and Thickness

The LG G3 OLED has a sleek and modern design. It features a hard plastic case and a metal frame around the edges. The TV is a couple of centimeters thick all over, giving it a uniform and slim profile.

Overview of the Available Ports

On the right side of the TV, you’ll find all of the available ports. There are four HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K 120Hz and VRR. HDMI 2 can be used for e-ARC, allowing you to send audio down to your AVR or Soundbar. Additionally, there are three USB ports, an Ethernet port, an optical out, cable and satellite ports, and an RF Blaster Port. The G3 does not have a headphone out port.

Features of the Cable Management Solution

The LG G3 OLED comes with a cable management trunk, allowing you to clip and manage your cables to keep them out of sight. This cable management solution is one of the best on the back of a TV, ensuring a clean and organized setup.

Wall Mounting and Cable Management

Now that we’ve unboxed the 2023 77 inch LG G3 OLED, let’s talk about wall mounting and cable management. In the box, you’ll find the included wall bracket specifically designed for this TV. The bracket fits inside the recessed area on the back of the TV, allowing for an ultra-flush mount on your wall. However, if you prefer to use a different bracket, you have the option to do so.

When it comes to cable management, the LG G3 OLED offers a great solution. The TV comes with a cable management trunk that allows you to clip and manage your cables, keeping them out of sight for a clean and organized setup. This cable management solution is one of the best on the back of a TV, ensuring a sleek look.

If you decide to wall mount the TV, you may need to make some adjustments to handle the cables. In my setup, I chose to have the cables hidden inside the wall. Since my walls are solid brick with plasterboard on top, I needed to have the walls cut to accommodate the cables. I had four HDMI 2.1 cables and one Ethernet port fitted inside, along with brush plates at the top and bottom for a seamless finish.

Additionally, if you plan on wall mounting the TV, you may need to install a new power socket behind it. This can be done by hiring an electrician to ensure a safe and clean installation. However, it’s important to note that the power cable is hardwired to the TV and cannot be removed.

Once the wall mounting and cable hiding process is complete, you can enjoy the finished setup. With the LG G3 OLED securely mounted on the wall and the cables neatly hidden, you’ll have a sleek and clutter-free entertainment area. Take the time to remove any protective film from the screen to fully appreciate the stunning picture quality of the G3 OLED.

First Impressions of Picture and Performance

Now that we’ve covered the unboxing and design of the 2023 77 inch LG G3 OLED, let’s talk about the first impressions of its picture and performance.

Removal of Protective Film and Improvement in Screen Quality

Before diving into the picture quality, it’s important to note that the G3 OLED comes with a protective film on the screen that needs to be removed. Once the film is removed, the screen quality is truly stunning. The difference is night and day, with the reflective screen transformed into a vibrant and clear display.

Discussion of Brightness and Color Vibrancy

The G3 OLED boasts impressive brightness, surpassing previous OLED models and even outperforming competitors like the Samsung S95B and Sony A95K. The use of MLA (micro lens array) technology has made a significant difference in brightness, making HDR content and Dolby Vision truly pop on the screen. Colors are natural, vibrant, and incredibly sharp, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Praise for Black Levels and Reflection Handling

As expected from an OLED, the G3 offers deep black levels, creating a stunning contrast and eliminating any washed-out or gray areas in dark scenes. Despite having a glossy screen, the reflection handling is exceptional. While there may be some reflection in bright areas or when viewing straight out a window, the tint on the G3 is darker than previous LG OLED models, reducing reflections in your room and providing an immersive viewing experience.

Gaming Capabilities and Features

The G3 OLED is a game-changer for gamers. With four HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K 120Hz, VRR, Nvidia G-Sync, and AMD FreeSync Premium, it’s equipped to handle PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC gaming. Input lag is incredibly low, under 5 milliseconds, ensuring smooth and responsive gameplay. The Game Optimizer mode is a standout feature, allowing gamers to easily monitor FPS, tweak picture settings, and enhance the gaming experience.

Overview of the User Interface and Menus

The G3 OLED’s user interface and menus are familiar to previous LG OLED models. The home screen features all the major apps and icons, which can be organized to suit your preferences. The Magic Remote control, although unchanged, provides easy navigation with its arrow cursor and smooth scroll wheel.

Overall, the first impressions of the G3 OLED’s picture and performance are incredibly positive. The combination of improved screen quality, impressive brightness, deep black levels, and gaming capabilities make it a top contender in the TV market. Stay tuned for a full review and comparison with the C1 model to determine if the upgrade is worth it!

The design of the TV is sleek and modern, with a thin profile and minimal bezels that make the picture look like it’s floating.
